Why We Are The Alcohol or Drug Assessment or Evaluation Place

Most people that need a professional assessment are asked by the courts or their attorneys because of some alcohol or drug-related arrest and pending conviction. The courts are interested to see if the person has any alcohol or drug abuse tendencies or if he/she may be addicted to alcohol or other drugs. Most people that get alcohol and drug assessments or evaluations for a DUI or DWI do not have alcohol or drug abuse histories and are not addicted. They have usually made a mistake and maybe while under the influence of alcohol or another drug, they drove their car or were arrested for public intoxication. These people have usually changed their behaviors the day after the arrest and don't need alcohol or drug classes or counseling and certainly don't need rehab.

What we have found that is very upsetting, is that there are some less-than-professional and certainly unethical providers doing alcohol and drug assessments and evaluations in a manner that guarantees them more business. They usually tell the clients that they did fine on their assessment, but that they have to send the final copy directly to the courts. That should be the first sign of trouble. Since the client requested the assessment/evaluation and not the courts, the client should be given the final report. The reason for this subterfuge is because they are NOT reporting that you did well, they are saying that you need alcohol and drug classes and, not surprisingly, most people will take the classes from the evaluator's company that they have already gotten to know. This is just one of the ways that the "system" is taking advantage of consumers. You can be assured that we are supporting and protecting your rights.

A professional DUI or DWI or any other type of alcohol and drug assessment or evaluation should be documenting everything that the person has done to help his case since the time of the arrest. Many people will stop drinking completely after an arrest of this type. Others will curtail their consumption and certainly not drive under the influence. These people don't need extensive classes or counseling to correct the error that they made in judgment when they drove after drinking or under the influence of drugs.

The evaluation should show this history and the person should feel that the evaluation report is a vindication of their mistakes and not a mysterious and vague report that keeps a person under the auspices and suspicion of courts, probation or others instead of being free to exercise one's control over their lives. Driving under the influence cannot be taken lightly. It is a serious offence that threatens the public safety and has caused tremendous cost in every way to everyone involved, but it doesn't mean that you have to do more than is necessary to handle your specific problem. There are people that want stiffer penalties for those that are caught driving under the influence and, in the United States, there is a process to change existing laws, it doesn't mean that the evaluator should play lawyer, jury and judge and pass judgment on their clients by implicating them in anything other than what the facts bare out to be the truth.

There are many injustices in life, but getting what you think is a reliable and honest assessment/evaluation shouldn't be one of them.

Our purpose is to help you communicate the strengths in your life, not to emphasize your weakness and require you to spend more money and time because of your past error.
